Air Quality Testing

Workplaces should have a high air quality

Work health and safety dictates that all employees and visitors must work in safe environments and the workplace is somewhere with a high chance there will be someone with air quality sensitivity issues.

However, all employees and customers will benefit from a clean controlled environment and air testing should be part of routine maintenance.

The first rule of air quality is control. An airtight building will work efficiently and not let pollutants enter from external sources (busy roads, garage or vehicle areas etc.) and will not let clean air leave in an uncontrolled manner through poor air barriers and unplanned gaps. If you have little control over air entering or leaving you greatly reduce your ability to control your indoor atmosphere.

Testing is important if you know that a particular ‘at-risk’ group will be attending such as in health centres or gyms and most places where visitors will sit in a wating area or hospitality/restaurant space. If you are at all concerned about reports of headaches, shortness of breath etc. then air quality testing should be one of your early interventions.

If you are at the design stage of your new premises whether it is a new build or a fit out it is important that you select the appropriate air handing heating and cooling systems. There are many options available such as:

  • Air source heat pumps
  • Ground source heat pumps
  • Solar powered HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning)
  • Dual fuel heat pumps
  • Smart HVAC systems
  • Advanced air purification technologies
  • Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) systems
  • And a few more specialist hybrid systems that may suit your project.
